Getting your Airbag Module Reset: How the Process Works

When an accident triggers your SRS control module, it locks down permanent crash data, keeping your warning light on. At Toki Auto Works, we clear that data and restore your system. Here is how our reset process works:

1. Initial Diagnostic Scan

We start by scanning your vehicle's safety network with advanced software to check fault codes and see if the module is storing hard-coded crash data.

2. On-Vehicle vs. Bench Resetting

Depending on your vehicle, your reset follows one of two paths:

  • On-Vehicle Reset: For many modern vehicles, we clear crash flags directly through the diagnostic port without removing the unit.

  • Bench Reset: For other models, we carefully remove the module and use specialized BDM frames and programming tools on the bench to wipe the internal memory.

3. When a Module Needs Replacement

Most modules can be reset successfully. In rare cases where our software is unable to unlock the module, a unit suffers severe physical, fire, or internal electronic damage, it cannot be safely reset and must be replaced.

4. Reinstallation and System Check

Once cleared and reprogrammed, we reinstall the module along with any required components like seatbelt tensioners, then perform a final system check to turn off the warning light.
